Deputy Head Teacher Rebecca Ireland has announced that 14, year 6 children from Mepal and Witcham Primary School have decided to raise funds to help the Arthur Rank Hospice charity by completing a Junior Apprentice challenge. The children are offering a variety of games and activities for the children, staff and parents to join in- to be held the week beginning the 9th July 2012.
The Arthur Rank Hospice is close to the hearts of the whole school as it was the place where a dearly loved parent of one of their year 6 pupils, spent their last days.
It is for this reason that they wanted to contribute something to help Lisa’s fund to reach its target of £100,000.
Rebecca said that the children have been working very hard to get things organised but need support for their efforts, so if you can volunteer and enjoy throwing a wet sponge at the teachers to help raise the profile of their activities, then please get in touch with Rebecca.
What an achievement! Thank you to everyone who has given their time and money to helping rasie this amazing amount.

On Saturday 23rd June LISAS FUND held a marothon twelve hour band concert at the Comrades Club in Soham. The band Akimbo organised the event and brought together more than 60 musicians and singers playing in ten different bands from twelve noon to twelve midnight. For two of the bands it was their first ever performance in front of a live audience. For others they simply wanted to be there and be involved. The bands came from all over the county and beyond, some of the bands where going on to do other shows later that day. Robert Barnes who launched Lisas Fund to raise £100.000 for the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity said the day has been a wonderful success we have seen musicians and singers from age fourteen to very professional seasoned performers all helping one another and all wanting to be a part of this great day.
Iain McLay and Claire Hitchings from the band Akimbo organised the event and along with a huge amount of help produced an outstanding musical event said Robert, there are so many people to thank for all their help in producing such an event.

Mr Ernie Barlow from Mepal held his belated 75th birthday party for Lisa’s Fund on Saturday 28th April. Mr.Barlow a former Sunday School Superintendent at Mepal became very ill just before his 75th birthday on October 31st 2011, but vowed one day to hold a party for Lisa’s Fund. Mr. Barlow now almost fully recovered knew Lisa many years ago when the family lived in Mepal and Lisa took her sons to Sunday School. He said ‘She was a lovely lady and a very good mother to her two boys Matthew and Steven.’ Mr Barlow said, ‘At 75 what do I need in the way of gifts, nothing, but Lisa’s fund is doing such a great job raising money for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity in Cambridge,’ he said, ‘they do need the money’.
Robert Barnes attended the party and commented, ‘Ernie is just one of those special people who has always put others before himself and I feel honoured he has chosen Lisa’s Fund.’Around eighty people attended and enjoyed live music from the band “New Life” who came and played for no fee. A grand total of £730.00 was raised and Robert thanked Ernie and his guests.

… spare a thought for the eighteen walkers from the Co-Opertive supermarket Wisbech Road Branch in Littleport who walked from Parkers Piece in Cambridge to their supermarket in Littleport to raise money for Lisa’s Fund. Store Manager, Chris Wright led his team on the 25 mile walk, he said he was so pleased with their performance, although the last 5 miles where very difficult we all helped each other, they did a great job team building, and they all returned very tired a bit emotional and very happy having achieved their goal.
The supermarket has recently taken Lisa’s fund as their charity of the year and intend to hold more events.
Robert Barnes who launched the fund in October 2010 greeted them all on their return, he said they looked tired and where very pleased they were home. What they have achieved today will be a great help to The Arthur Rank Hospice Charity in Cambridge, I am raising £100.000 for the Charity. Money raised to date is £44,000.
Chris said he hoped todays walk will raise between £1,300 and £1,500 for Lisa’s Fund.
