Birthday Party raises funds for Lisa Saturday August 17th 2013

Another fundraising event over the week end has raised almost £500 for
Lisa’s Fund. Arvind Shah celebrated his 40th birthday and decided to
donate all the proceeds to Lisa’s fund.

Arvind who is a web developer and local broadband champion living and
working in Prickwillow, near Ely, threw a party for his friends. He
requested, instead of bringing cards and gifts, that people donated to
Lisa’s fund through a justgiving page set up for the occasion
(http://www.justgiving.com/arvinds40th). Arvind and his partner Sally,
who is an NHS nurse in the Dementia Carers Support Service in Ely and
Cambridge, organised the party with the help of their friends. The food
was provided by the Cambridge Cheese Company, party music from local DJs
Meme Sound System, and professional vocalist Vanessa Smart-Perry.

“I am absolutely amazed at the response from our guests and everybody
had a fantastic time. Being a festival-goer myself, I wanted to create a
festival atmosphere and we invited people to camp out in the garden. We
even managed to drag ourselves out of bed the morning after and serve
croissants for breakfast to our guests. Robert Barnes is good friend of
mine and being able to contribute to Lisa’s Fund feels fantastic. People
were able to connect with Robert and relate to their own experiences.”
said Arvind.

Robert commented, “It was touching to meet everyone at the party who
wanted to know all about Lisa’s Fund. Everyone was having a great time
and I am so grateful to Arvind and his friends for being so generous.”

Lisa’s Fund now stands at £80,000.
